The time is here, asphalt! This week we are going to start the finishing touches on the project. In order to get the roads back into good shape, we are going to mill the existing asphalt prior to paving. Milling takes out a 1 ½” of the existing pavement, which means we will have some bigger bumps in the roads. We expect the milling to take two days and the paving will also take about two days. So, the bumps will not be around very long.
We will be having some short-term road closures next week, but they will only last for a couple of hours at a time. Most of what we will be doing will keep traffic flowing. We will be working in the intersections of West A Street and West B Street on West Avenue and try to get those two spots riding better. West A Street may take some time and may also need to close one side at a time. We don’t know what we will have under the asphalt until we take it up, but that intersection looks like it has some issues under the pavement. The schedule is as follows:
- Monday – Tuesday - Milling operations on Main Street, Vance Street and Oak Avenue along with the West A Street and West B Street intersections.
- Wednesday – Thursday – Paving operations in the same areas.
- Monday – Friday – Paving operations being performed by Propst Construction on West A Street, West B Street.
